From the 1st July you will be responsible for declaring how much EEE you have placed on the market each quarter. Subject to the category of EEE and whether the equipment is destined for the household or non-household market will determine the cost of your obligation. The examples below outline costs for obligation in 2007. For details of your own costs please visit our website.

Example 1
A large manufacturer places 300 tonnes of IT equipment on the market (business to business) in 2006. The total cost of compliance will be:

WeeeCare Scheme Fees £960
Environment Agency Fees £445
Recycling fees (300 tonnes X £6 per tonne) £1800
Total cost for 2007 compliance £3205

Example 2
A small manufacturer places 4 tonnes of monitoring and control instruments on the market (business to business) in 2006. The total cost in this case will be:

WeeeCare Scheme Fees £230
Environment Agency Fees £220
Recycling Fees (4 tonnes X £14 per tonne) £56
Total cost for 2007 compliance £506

Pay-as-weee-go
Of course we realise that this underwritten scheme will not suit everyone and like other schemes we are offering a Pay-as-weee-go scheme. This is based not on what was put onto the market last year but on what obligated waste is actually collected, treated and recycled. The scheme fees and Environment Agency fees will remain unaltered but we will simply charge a commercial rate for collections carried out, for example in the scenario above:

Example 3
A small manufacturer places 4 tonnes of monitoring and control instruments on the market in 2006

WeeeCare Scheme Fees £230
Environment Agency Fees £220
Recycling Fees (assuming 2 tonnes of equipment is collected
at £245 per tonne)
£490
Total cost for 2007 compliance £940

The next stage
We are currently waiting for the EA to confirm the electronic format for customer registration. As soon as this is received we will write to you requesting final details for your membership. When you receive these documents we would urge you to complete them as soon as possible because all the information has to be passed to the Environment Agency by the end of March. In order to ensure you are choosing the best compliance scheme for your company we are providing a comparison of each approved scheme as we receive the details from the EA. In the meantime, please note that WeeeCare is offering the lowest costs for weee compliance fixed for 2007. For details of this service and all other aspects of Weee compliance simply visit your member only login at www. Weeecare.com. Don't forget your password is your email address.
